Kindergarten Learning Community

Ms. Jade Brooks

Ms. Brooks received her Bachelor’s of Science in Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology from UC Davis. She worked for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Max Planck Institute as a wildlife biologist before she realized a love for the field of education. Ms. Brooks once helped zoologists and curators develop educational exhibits at the Smithsonian’s museums in Washington, D.C. — an experience that showed her how much she loves to teach and inspire future generations to have a positive impact on the world. Upon returning to California, Ms. Brooks taught in school districts across Yolo County at all grade levels (pre-K through 12th), including in Special Day Class and autistic intervention settings. She then went on to earn her Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential and M.A. in Education from UC Davis. She is looking forward to providing a safe and nurturing environment so all her students may be the most curious, mindful, and engaged scholars they can be! Ms. Brooks is fluent in speaking Mandarin Chinese and in American Sign Language.


Mrs. Anu Srikumar

Mrs. Anu received her Masters in Software Engineering from India and worked in the Technology industry for almost 10 years before she decided to extend her interest in technology to the field of Education. She received her Multiple Subject Credential and Masters in Education from San Jose State University and has been working in the Cupertino Union School District in 3rd Grade, 1st Grade and Kindergarten. Additionally, she also taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade students Math at Orchard Elementary School as part of the SVEF Elevate Math summer program. Her favorite pastime is gardening and spending time with her children who teach her amazing new things everyday. Mrs Anu is fluent in Malayalam and believes that being multilingual is the strongest superpower your child can have in today’s world. She is excited to be part of the Mattos team and to connect and grow with families and students over their first year in school.

1st Grade Learning Community

Ms. Alex Hernandez

Ms. Hernandez received her Bachelor's of Arts in Sociology and Minor in Psychology from San Jose State University. She later received her Master's of Arts in Teaching and Teaching Credential from Santa Clara University. She is also a Milpitas native and a proud graduate of the Milpitas Unified School District! She is happy to be able to give back to the community that she grew up in. Ms. Hernandez has taught both kindergarten and 1st grade. Her favorite thing about 1st grade is writing because she loves reading her students’ stories and seeing how much they’ve grown. Ms. Hernandez is looking forward to a year full of growth, fun, and learning with her students and families!



Ms. Lily Soto

Ms. Soto attended San Jose State for both her undergraduate and graduate education. She earned her Bachelor’s of Arts in Child and Adolescent Development, Master’s in Education, and Teaching Credential. Her education has informed an approach to teaching which includes connecting to families and the school/local community in order to better support her students. Ms. Soto had 5 years of experience working with children (k-8th) in a variety of settings. She has worked for the YMCA, Galileo Summer Camps, and the Tech Museum of Innovation. Most recently she student taught full time in a 1st grade classroom and is excited to continue teaching in this grade. Ms. Soto is excited to share her love for hands-on science and engineering with the first grade learning community!

Ms. Natalie Tice

Ms. Tice received her Bachelor's of Science in Business from the University of San Francisco and her Master's of Arts in Teaching and Teaching Credential from Santa Clara University. After realizing her love for kids, she made the career switch from business marketing to teaching. Ms. Tice has taught both Kindergarten and 1st grade at Mattos. She enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her loved ones. She is very happy to be a part of this Mattos community and work with you to support children's growth as they embark on their educational journey!

2nd Grade Learning Community

Ms. Amy Hoffman

Ms. Hoffman grew up in the Bay Area and is so thankful to have been educated here. She received her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Master of Arts in Education from UC Davis, and she returned to the Bay to be near her family and the community that gave her so much. Her student teaching experiences in Woodland and Davis spanned K through 6th grade, and she has been teaching at summer camps and schools since 2009. Ms. Hoffman especially enjoys teaching students about unity in diversity, botany, music, and new ways to approach problem solving. She is proud of the community created at Mattos and loves being a part of it!

Ms. Morse-Quevedo

Ms. Morse-Quevedo received her Bachelor’s degree in Child & Adolescent Development from San Jose State University. She believes in teaching the whole child and using an understanding of how children learn and develop to help support them in the classroom. Ms. Morse-Quevedo also received her Master of Arts in Teaching and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Santa Clara University. She has student teaching experience in 1st and 3rd grade, one year of teaching in a contained 3rd grade classroom, and several years of working with school-age kids via school, family, babysitting, and summer camps. Ms. Morse-Quevedo loves teaching students about reading, writing, and math! She loves teaching real-world applications so that students are able to make sense of the content being taught, constructing their own knowledge. Ms. Morse-Quevedo is so excited to join the Mattos staff and cannot wait to meet and work with families!


Ms. Cecilia Pham

Ms. Pham received her Master of Arts in Education and teaching credential from San Jose State University. Being born and raised in the bay area, she appreciates the diverse communities that surround us and would like to continue to embrace different cultures within her classroom. She has been teaching for the past 6 years and will begin her first year at Mattos. Ms. Pham truly believes in fostering a warm and caring learning environment for her students and strives to support them to reach their fullest potential. When she is not teaching, she enjoys being outdoors, biking, hiking, and having picnics with her two dogs, Cookie and Saddo. She is really excited to be a part of the Mattos team and looking forward to meeting you all.

2nd/3rd Grade Learning Community

Ms. Vivian Sun (2nd/3rd Grade Lead)

Ms. Sun has been at Mattos since its first day open and looks forward to continuing her teaching journey here! She completed her Masters in education and teaching credential with Mandarin Bilingual Authorization at Stanford University and her Bachelor of Science in Biology with Minor in Educational Studies from Haverford College. Her experience includes student teaching at Sunnyvale School District and Santa Clara Unified School District. She was an online ESL teacher and Teacher Evaluator at VIPKID, and she founded an English summer camp in Taiwan. She grew up in New Jersey and spent her teenage years in Shanghai and Taiwan. She enjoys trying new foods and often travels back to Taiwan where her parents live. She is excited to embark on an exciting journey with her students and families this year.



Ms. Alyssa Huh (3rd Grade Lead)

Ms. Huh received her Bachelor’s of Art at University of California, Riverside. She then received her Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential and Master of Arts in Teaching at University of California, Irvine. Throughout her years in school, Ms. Huh volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, tutored English language learners, and worked at various after school programs. Through these experiences, she developed her passion for teaching and working with children. In addition, Ms. Huh student taught in a 2nd grade classroom at Irvine Unified School District and a 4th grade classroom at Santa Ana Unified School District. Upon receiving her Masters and Credential, she then moved up to the Bay Area and worked as a 3rd grade STEM teacher at Rocketship Spark Academy for 4 years. Ms. Huh enjoys traveling, experiencing new cuisines, and spending quality time with her family and friends. She is excited to share her enthusiasm for learning with the Mattos team and challenge students to meet their full academic potential!

4th Grade Learning Community

Ms. Amberly Hsieh (4th Grade Lead)

Ms. Hsieh received her Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology, Bachelor's of Science in Human Development, and Minor in Education from the University of California, Davis. She then went on to receive her Teaching Credential and her Master of Arts in Education, again from UC Davis. She has experience working with students in the Davis Joint Unified School District as a first-, third-, and fifth-grade intern. Additionally, she worked in the Natomas Unified School District as a first grade student teacher. She loves being a part of the Mattos community and helping each student achieve their goals! Ms. Hsieh is fluent in Mandarin-Chinese.


Resource Specialist

Ms. Kiersten Sales (K-4)

Ms. Sales obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in Education with a specialization in Special Education and a Minor in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Nevada, Reno. She then worked as a Second Grade Teacher for two years in the Renton School District, located in the state of Washington. In addition, her experience includes substitute teaching grades K-12 in Nevada and Washington, volunteering and practicum background involving Preschool through 6th grade students, and student teaching in 2nd grade and in a Special Day Class consisting of 3rd-5th grade students. She is originally from Honolulu, Hawaii but grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and loves to travel! Ms. Sales is passionate about teaching students about social emotional learning as well as supporting each and every student’s needs. Ms. Sales is thrilled to be a part of the Mattos team and can’t wait to get to know you and your students this year!
