Kindergarten Learning Community

Ms. Esther Chung

Ms. Chung received her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and her Multiple Subject Credential from California State University, Fullerton. Initially, she developed an interest in teaching through her volunteer work at the Korean Church of Orange County, Clavier Music School, Garden Grove Unified School District and Artesia Bloomfield and Carmenita Unified School District. She gained further experience as a student teacher in the Sana Ana Unified School District and the Anaheim City Unified School District. In addition, she served as a substitute teacher in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District. After receiving her education and training in Southern California, she planted her roots in Northern California and had the opportunity to teach 2nd grade at Curtner Elementary in the Milpitas Unified School District. Now, she is honored to be a part of the Mattos community, and she looks forward to nurturing the growth and development of your children’s minds.

Ms. Alex Hernandez

Ms. Hernandez received her Bachelor's of Arts in Sociology and Minor in Psychology from San Jose State University. She later received her Master's of Arts in Teaching and Teaching Credential from Santa Clara University. She was a student teacher in kindergarten and 4th grade in Milpitas Unified School District. Ms. Hernandez is also a Milpitas native and a proud graduate of the the Milpitas Unified School District! Additionally, she has volunteered working with children for local non-profit organizations. She looks forward to an amazing school year at Mattos and is excited to help students succeed in their education and participation in school!


Ms. Natalie Tice

Ms. Tice received her Bachelor's of Science in Business from the University of San Francisco and her Master's of Arts in Teaching and Teaching Credential from Santa Clara University. Her past experience working with kids consists of being a Kindergarten and 4th grade Student Teacher in Berryessa Union School District and Preschool Teacher at Sunshine Preschool. Additionally, she has done volunteer work with kids at St. Victor's Church, Breakthrough Collaborative, Reading Partners SF, and Jensen's School for the Performing Arts (right here in Milpitas!). She is very excited to be a part of the Mattos community and work with you to support your children's growth as they embark on their educational journey!

1st/2nd Grade Learning Community

Ms. Vivian Sun (1st Grade Lead)

Ms. Sun looks forward to starting the first ever 1st grade class at Mattos Elementary. She completed her Masters in education and teaching credential with Mandarin Bilingual Authorization at Stanford University and her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Haverford College. Her experience includes student teaching at Sunnyvale School District (5th grade and 2nd grade) and Santa Clara Unified School District (1st grade). She was a VIPKID English Teacher, New Student Evaluator, Teacher Evaluator and the Taiwan English Summer Camp Founder and Director. She grew up in New Jersey and spent her teenage years in Shanghai and Taiwan. She enjoys exploring new places, and often travels back to Taiwan where her parents live. She excited to embark on an exciting journey with her students and families this year.

Ms. Chelsea Andon (2nd Grade Lead)

Growing up in Monterey, Ms. Andon moved to San Jose to pursue her education at Santa Clara University. Here she received her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and Music and her Master of Arts in Teaching. She has worked with a variety of programs around the Bay including Camp Galileo, Milpitas Summer Enrichment Program, and numerous elementary schools. Last year, Ms. Andon had the opportunity to teach 3rd grade at Joseph Weller Elementary before coming to Mabel Mattos. Ms. Andon will be going into her second year of teaching and can't wait to work with her new group of students at the brand new Mattos Elementary!
